Club History

Finchampstead Football Club: A Brief History
Established in 1952, Finchampstead Football Club, affectionately known as "Finch," has grown from humble beginnings into a cornerstone of the local community in Finchampstead, Berkshire. The club's inception was made possible by the creation of Memorial Park, providing a dedicated space for football enthusiasts to come together and form a team.

Early Success and League Progression
Shortly after its formation, Finchampstead FC joined the Ascot & District League. Demonstrating early promise, the club clinched the Division Two title in the 1954–55 season, followed by the Division One championship in 1955–56. This success paved the way for their promotion to Division Two of the Reading & District League. The momentum continued as they secured the Division Two championship in 1956–57 and ascended to Division One. By the 1959–60 season, Finchampstead FC had earned promotion to the Premier Division, marking a significant milestone in the club's early history.

Challenges and Resurgence
The 1960s presented challenges, with the club facing relegation to Division Two. However, resilience defined their journey. The 1977–78 season saw Finchampstead FC emerge as Division Two champions, leading to promotion back to Division One. Their determination bore fruit when they clinched the Division One title in 1978–79, earning a well-deserved return to the Premier Division. The pinnacle of this era was the 1982–83 season, during which they were crowned Premier Division champions.

Transition to the Chiltonian and Hellenic Leagues
Building on their domestic achievements, Finchampstead FC ventured into the Premier Division of the Chiltonian League in 1987. Their debut season was nothing short of spectacular, as they secured the Premier Division title. The club continued to be a formidable force, finishing as runners-up in subsequent seasons and capturing the Bon Accord Trophy in 1993–94. The turn of the millennium marked a new chapter, with the Chiltonian League merging into the Hellenic League. Finchampstead FC became members of Division One East and showcased their prowess by winning the division in the 2001–02 season. However, due to the absence of floodlights at Memorial Park, promotion to the Premier Division was not feasible at that time.

Recent Developments
In the 2016–17 season, challenges related to ground grading regulations led the first team to depart from the Hellenic League. They subsequently joined Division One of the Thames Valley Premier League. Despite a fifth-place finish in the 2018–19 season, Finchampstead FC's ambition and consistent performance earned them promotion to the Premier Division, reflecting the club's enduring spirit and commitment to growth.

Community Engagement and Youth Development
Beyond the senior teams, Finchampstead FC is deeply invested in nurturing young talent. The club boasts teams across various age groups, from Under 7 to Under 18, all managed by dedicated volunteer coaches and managers. This emphasis on youth development ensures a continuous pipeline of talent and reinforces the club's integral role within the local community.

Home Ground
Memorial Park serves as the cherished home of Finchampstead FC. The ground is shared with the local cricket club, necessitating that the football club plays its initial matches of the season away to accommodate both sports. This shared arrangement highlights the collaborative spirit prevalent within the Finchampstead sporting community.
